Hearthtale

2021, 15 page Digital Comic, Photoshop CS5

Hearthtale was a 15-page fancomic inspired by the games Undertale and Deltarune. The vast majority of the work consists of a fight scene that I used to push myself to develop my artistic skills. In essence it's a study in the full process of making a comic from start to finish, as well as where I first began developing my art style.

Milton Glaser-Inspired Self Portrait

2024, Vector Self Portrait, Illustrator '24

This was a self portrait inspired by the works of Milton Glaser. I chose to give the work a semi-dreary look by emphasizing the shadows and using a desaturated yellow for the background. An orange radial gradient was added to break up the background and add a drop of drama to the image.

Orange Spot Flower Beetle

2025, Scientific Illustration, Clip Studio Paint

This is an illustrated diagram of an orange spot flower beetle. I used a real (albeit not live) specimen as reference. Special attention was given to the exact shapes of the spots as well as the shape of the shell.

Starwalker

2025, Single Page Digital Comic, Clip Studio Paint

This comic strip references the “You're Approaching Me?” meme, depicting characters from the game Deltarune. The starry background has a slight gradient going from a dark blue to black, going from the bottom right to the top left, as well as clouds curved in a way to enhance the perspective. I contrasted the dark and painterly style of the first two panels with bright, blocked in colors on the same character to heighten the impact of the final panel.

Carbon Dust Skull

2025, Scientific Illustration, Charcoal Dust

This is a study of a human skull made using carbon dust technique and sfumato and chiaroscuro concepts. This was my first time using carbon dust in my work, and I was both impressed with and frustrated by its quirks during the process of making this piece.

Comparitive Bird Silhouettes

2025, Scientific Illustration, Ink

This is a comparison of multiple birds native to California, depicted in flight and relative in size to each other. I chose to position each figure unevenly to create an interesting shape in the overall gesture of the piece as well as create some interesting rorschach-like effects if the viewer looks hard enough.

Foot Bone Crosshatching

2025, Scientific Illustration, Ink

This is a volumetric, hatched contour drawing of the bones of the human foot. I find the process of illustrating hatching to be very engaging compared to other shading methods, likely because it touches on my fondness for elegantly conveying rich information via simple visuals. It's a very nice middle ground between complex and comprehendable for a viewer.

Animation

Sky Should be High

2024, Action-Oriented Animation, Photoshop '24

This is a gif set to the lyrics of a song by the same name, taken from the game Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2. I made the figure bursting through the clouds a bright orange and yellow to contrast with the blue text and grey clouds. The rhythm of the appearance of the words is timed to be the same as when they are said in the song.

Design

Obscure Emotion Postcard

2024, Postcard, Photoshop '24

This piece is a postcard designed to represent an obscure emotion, that being Mauerbauertraurigkeit, which is the inexplicable desire to push people away, even close friends. I chose to represent this emotion through a gigantic box threatening to close around the world, mirroring how such self-isolating tendencies will lead one to become closed off from their peers. For the foreground, I chose an image of a mountain range to evoke a feeling of roughness, as well as to highlight the size of the box in the background, implying it to be astronomically large.
